Sunil Mehra

Chairman of Board

Dr. Sunil Mehra, MD (Paediatrics) from Banaras Hindu University, India has been a practising paediatrician for over three decades. Has founded MAMTA in 1990 and with his vision expanded its work to 12 states of India and neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Nepal.
Dr. Mehra has conceptualized, developed and provided technical inputs into numerous maternal newborn and child health projects and has contributed immensely to the policy and program dialogue in the country and the region. He has been part of many task forces and committees in India and globally. He continues to support formulation of strategies and interventions to address issues like adolescent reproductive and sexual health, maternal and child health, HIV and AIDS in the country and the region. A committed professional, Dr Mehra along with a few others has now conceptualized the 10K club to work towards ensuring right to health of children and adolescent.

Aroon Bhatia


Mr. Aroon Bhatia a finance professional and a Charted Accountant with extensive experience of working with Development sector organizations. He has been instrumental in building financial management capabilities of many national and regional civil society organizations.

Pawan K. Varma

Working Director

Mr Pawan K. Varma, Director of the Institute, is a management graduate with a more than 15 years of extensive experience in systems and processes of development sector. He has worked with CIET, NCERT, Government of India on content development projects and on Information Systems of a Multinational (Whirlpool of India) before joining the development sector with MAMTA Health Institute for Mother and Child in 2001. He is a committed and energetic individual who sternly believes in working for the cause of the marginalized and under privileged.

Prashant Pastore


Prashant Pastore is a Postgraduate from Centre for Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and has been trained from the University of Oregon, USA on qualitative analysis and systematic review. MrPrashant has over 14 years of working experience which includes his early days volunteering in Himalayas. He is an active on various issues concerning public health, environment and sustainability. He has been part of strategic planning and development of the Institute including national and international technical support. Mr. Prashant has had a long association with both MAMTA and Institute of Global Development for past many years. Prior to joining MAMTA, He was the Regional Manager with Transport Corporation of India and heading the Northern Indian region trucker programme. MrPrashant also has extensive background experience of working with environmental health. At Toxics Link, he was leading the team of waste and mercury programme on providing technical support to government and private sector institutes on the issues of waste and mercury and heavy metal substitution in healthcare and other consumer products. He is also associated with Solidaridad-South and South East Asia and working on the issues of poverty reduction and sustainable supply chains on various farm based products
